fancy's southern cafeFancy’s Southern Cafe  has been around since 2012 and remains popular despite its somewhat hard to find location. They are open for breakfast (Saturday and Sunday’s), lunch and dinner.

Have dined there both for lunch and dinner, we decided to give their breakfast a try. There are not many options for breakfast especially on the Daniels corridor. Sometimes for breakfast you want something different, a culinary experience but in a casual cozy atmosphere. That is exactly what Fancy’s delivers.

Their breakfast menu not only has Omelets and Pancakes and Eggs but many other delightful options. We really had a hard time choosing. Did we want the Corned Beef Hash and Eggs or perhaps the Southern Crab Cake Benedict? We ultimately chose the Shrimp and Grits ($14.95) blacked gulf shrimp, bacon, cheddar grits, tomatoes and tasso ham jus.  I chose the Biscuits and Gravy ($12.95) homemade sausage gravy, 2 buttermilk biscuits, hash browns and 2 eggs. Despite being raised in the north, I have become very fond of Biscuits and Gravy. These were the absolute best I have had in a very long time. The buttermilk biscuits were homemade southern style and were huge. The gravy was perfect and not pasty as some places seem to make it. They served the right amount of gravy as I do not like my biscuits smothered. The eggs were perfect over easy as requested. The hash browns were a bit browner than I like but the taste and flavors were excellent.

Fancy’s Southern CaféThe Shrimp and Grits were over the top. Each bite one would have a different flavor do a dance in your mouth. My dining companion has never had tasso ham jus but really enjoyed it as it added so much flavor to the dish. The grits were creamy and cooked perfectly. Did I mention the shrimp? They were absolutely delicious. If you like shrimp and grits, then this is a perfect option for you. Your tastebuds will dance with glee.

As Fancy’s has a full bar, they offered Mimosa’s $7.95, or you can get the bottomless option for $17.95. The mimosa is rather small and could use a bit more champagne. They do use excellent orange juice though. This was our one disappointment. Oh, and the hostess was a bit less than warm and welcoming. Our server Rose was excellent. She was on top of everything, warm friendly and made sure we were well taken care of.

If you are looking for a place for breakfast that is a step above the usuals, then put Fancy’s Southern Café on your list and go there some Saturday or Sunday. You will not be disappointed.
