Island View Restaurant at the Lani Kai
On top of the Lani Kai sits the Island View Restaurant. On one side is the bar with table seating and entertainment and on the other side is booths and tables also for dining. On this visit we dined in the bar area. They were not overly crowded with perhaps 5-6 other tables of diners. The view from the glass elevator when you reach the top is pretty decent but the view of the water once you are inside is breathtaking especially at sunset!
We had never dined at the Lani Kai but several of us of partied there in our youth (and who hasn’t?). We were not sure of what to expect but I have to say we were pleasantly surprised.
The martini special was a mocha espresso martini. Oh, how special that was! It even comes with a side car….I have not seen that done in ages and never in the SWFL area.
Several of us tried the New England clam chowder which was very tasty and very filling. The lettuce wrap appetizer is huge and everything was fresh. I had Rigatoni with Broccoli Agilo Olio and added shrimp. This dish was packed with flavor and the shrimp was so fresh tasting you would think it just came off one of the nearby shrimp boats. Actually, we were told the shrimp is sourced locally.
The entertainment was really quite good. Larry Maas was playing that night. He was friendly and takes requests not only from us but from other diners as well. He has an excellent voice and makes the whole experience fun without being intrusive.
Having heard mix reviews of other dining experiences at the Island View, I must say ours was very good and we would all go back again. So many restaurants in our area seem to shy away from having dishes with any sort of flavor, it is refreshing to find one that does.
